Greetings from Namche Bazaaar, 3,440m, after an absolutely beautiful first two days on the trail to Everest Base Camp. Our 2017 Everest Expedition has begun, and we are all psyched to be out of the city dust and into the first step of our journey up into the soaring mountains of the Khumbu. From Lukla, our trajectory has followed the blue Dudh Kosi River over high hanging bridges and though many villages. We’ve seen plenty of traffic on the trail, mostly four legged, as well as rhododendron in full bloom and dragonflies! We couldn’t have asked for better weather.
Our second day today started with a birthday celebration for Mac, before we wound our way up to the town of Namche Bazaar, capital of the Khumbu, arriving to the comforts of our lodge and a brownie, coffee, hot shower and nap (in that order!) at 3pm. Here we start our acclimatization process proper, as oxygen pressure in the atmosphere decreases the higher we go. Our bodies now start to adjust their pH and breathing rate before some red blood cell manufacture later to come. Our only job right now is to have fun, enjoy, rest, hike some, and eat! (And I must say the team is doing exceptionally well with all of the above).
Good night and Namaste from Namche!
